Fernandez, Alicia

ReadingWelcome to Reading Across the Campus

Hello my name is Alicia Fernandez.  I am the Reading Teacher at Beall Elementary and look forward to working with students on sharpening their reading skills!

I graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a major in Interdisciplinary studies and a minor in bilingual education.  I am an El Paso native and have lived in Northeast El Paso most of my life.  I also took several courses at El Paso Community College and have spent my entire teaching career servicing students and families in South side El Paso.

We work on the five components of reading:  comprehension, vocabulary, fluency phonics, and phonological awareness.   I will work closely with 3rd, 4th, and 5th to ensure student success in this subject! Students learn to chunk words/texts and break down words with syllables to understand what they are reading.  Strategies that are used range from asking and answering questions to summarizing different genres, using main idea or SWBTS to construct the best summary for reading.  I am excited to share my passion for reading with our students!

My students are expected to:  try their best
                                            ask questions
be excellent in all they do!!

My conference period is from 8:15 am to 9:00 am.  Please contact me a day in advance to meet with me if possible!

Thank you for all your support in educating the generations of tomorrow!
